Introduction:
Dragon festival is Held on the Qingshui River between the 24th and
27th of the fifth lunar month, The Miao come from Taijiang, Zhenyuan
and Shibing to take part in the festival. The origin of this festival
is explained by the folk story of a dragon that swallowed a fisherman's
son. Guya, the fisherman, retaliated and burnt the dragon's home.
The fire burned for nine days and finally people celebrated the fisherman's
victory by eating the dragon meat. Five villages in the area received
different parts of the dragon's anatomy. Each of these villages now
holds a dragon festival on a different day to celebrate his destruction.
A 17-metre boat and two 10-metre boats are constructed from fir, each
with a carved dragon's head on its prow. The boats are launched and
over 40 rows drink fiery spirits. They row to village where pleas
are made to the dragon to bestow happiness on each community. Pigs,
goats, ducks and geese are presented to the crew and headman. Families
gather on the bank to eat and gossip and in the evenings the young
people sing to each other.
Day-by-day Itinerary
Day 01 June 27 GuiYang/KaiLi £¨D£©
Arrive in Guiyang. Meet your guide at the airport. Drive to Kaili.Overnight
at Kaili Guotai Hotel. Kaili, about 125 km east of Guiyang in Guizhou
province, is the capital of the Miao-Doug Autonomous Region.
Day 02 June 28 KaiLi/ShiDong/ZhenYuan £¨B£¬L£¬D£©
Drive to Shidong to attend the ¡° Dragon Boat Festival¡±. See the dragon
boat racing.
Drive to Zhenyuan Overnight at Zhenyuan Fucheng Hotel. Located at
the edge of Yunnan-Guizhou plateau, Zhenyuan is sheltered by the mountains.
It is a land-and-water transportation center since early times. Cut
through by the Wuyang River, the town is divided into two parts: south
'Wei City' and north 'Fu City', which forms a water town. Hence it
is well-reputed as the 'Oriental Venice'.
Day 03 June 29 ZhenYuan/KaiLi £¨B£¬L£¬D£©
Morning take a visit to Black Dragon Cave, then drive
back to Kaili via Huangping. Take a visit to Feiyun Cliff. Visit Matang
Gejia village¡£Matang is an interesting Gejia village that produces
traditional batik customs, Gejia women will begin to learn wax printing
at age of 8-9, are skilled at batik, petit point and embroidery, in
this village (19km to Kaili), you will fall in an art world of batik.
Overnight at Kaili Guotai Hotel or the similar.
Day 04 June 30 KaiLi £¨B£¬L£¬D£©
Drive to visit Qingman Miao village and Shiqiao Miao village. Overnight
at Kaili Guotai Hotel
Day 05 July 01 KAILI-GUIYANG (B,L)
Morning drive to Guiyang. Take afternoon flight leaving Guiyang.
