In the tour, we will start from the Old Dragon Head in Hebei province, the eastern starting point of the Ten-thousand-li Great Wall, to Huangyaguan Pass in Tianjin, and trek on to Simatai,Jinshanling and Gubeikou in Beijing. The sections of the Wall you will visit are typical in architecture, scenery, wildness, and military importance. The total length we will trek in the trip is about 60km. Some part of the wall is too broken to walk, please prepared to experience some hardship on the way. You have the chance to visit and explore beautiful sections of the Great Wall that most people will never see.

  • DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

    Day 1 Home-Beijing(by air)
Meet and greet at the airport of Beijing. Transfer to the hotel(3 star) in the center of the city. In the afternoon, we will have a brief meeting: we will show you the equipment and food we have prepared for you and check whether there is any personal item needed. And the rest of the time is left for you to shop in the outdoor store for what missing. Stay in 3-star hotel in Beijing

Day 2 Beijing-the Old Dragon Head-Shanhaiguan-Jiaoshan Great Wall
Drive from Beijing to the Old Dragon Head in Qinghuangdao City. The Old Dragon Head is in the very eastern end of the Great Wall, where it plunges into the sea. It was built in the Ming Dynasty by General Xu Da. The martial constructions lasted from the beginning to the end of Ming Dynasty. In the Qin Dynasty, invaders destroyed the Old Dragon Head for military purpose. In 1985, the government took effective measures to repair the Old Dragon Head.
We will start here and trek northwest first to Shanhaiguan Pass, the first Pass Under Heaven along the Great Wall. It was the east gate of the ancient city. The original name was Zhen Dong, which means the safety of the east. In fact the name of Shanhaiguan not only refers to the tower or the ancient city, but also a complete military defense system, which includes the Great Wall stretching out for 26 km with 10 passes . Then trek up to Jiaoshan top. This part of the wall has been repaired. Though it is steep, not so difficult to hike up. Down the Wall to stay in the Hotel.

    Day 3 Jiaoshan-Sandaoguan Great Wall
Today is the first day we trek the unprepared wild wall. Be prepared to trek in the wed and bush on the top of the mountain up and down. It is really a hard work for about 6hour along the wild Great Wall. Where to stay depending on how fit we are, we will choose hostel to stay where you could have a shower.

    Day 4 Dongjiakou-Pingdingyu Great Wall
After breakfast in the hostel we will drive to Dongjiakou, This section of the Great Wall is located to the northeast of Funing County, which is 38 miles from downtown-Qinhuangdao. As an important strategic point, this section fortified with 36 turrets, 28 ramparts and 16 beacon towers with a total length of 8.5 miles (we could walk part of it) . The highest altitude is 556m. Trek from Dongjiakou to Pingdingyu. The architectural forms of the Great Wall are various. Some the relief carvings on the arched gateways are scanty in China, because this is the vivid embodiment of the culture from south China, which General Qi brought in from Fujian Province. stay in a hostel in Funing County or the nearby village, where you could have a shower.

Day 5 East QingTomb-Huangyaguan Section Great Wall
Drive from Funing County to East Qing Tomb in Tianjin in the morning. Visit the Tomb, where Cixi and other emperors are buried. After lunch drive to Huangyaguan, another important pass on the Wall. We will stay in the hostel at the bottom of the wall, in the late afternoon, hike the eastern part of the wall and then wondering around the pass city.

Day 6 Huangyaguan-Simatai Section Great Wall
Get up in the early morning to hike up the west part of this section. Later in the morning we will drive from Huangyaguan to Simatai, passing Miyun County and have lunch there. After arrival at Simatai, check in the hostel at the bottom of the Wall, where you will have a great view of the Wall on the steep mountain out of your window. Late afternoon we start out for the eastern part of the Wall( one of the most steep part on the Wall) and enjoy the breath-taking sun-setting view on top of the Mountain. It took us three-four hours up and back. Barbecue dinner and a good shower tonight.

Day 7 Simatai-Jinshanling Section Great Wall

Then we will trek until we arrival at Jinshanling part of the Wall. Enjoy the breath-taking sun-setting and sky dotted with star.Stay in the hostel at the bottom of the Wall.

Day 8 Jinshanling-Gubeikou Section Great Wall
Continue trek west from Jinshanling to General Tower in Gubeikou, on the way, you will pass a military area where you have to trek a short distance country road away from the wall. Today's trekking is easy because the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall is still kept well. At the end of the trek drive back to Beijing, stay at a 3 star hotel for a comfortable shower and sleep.

    • It is very important to buy tourist insurance before taking the Great Wall hiking tour. The wall is on the top of the mountain broken and loose, some part is really very difficult and strenuous. Be very careful.
    • In summer, thunder shower or storm is common while hiking on the Wall. Be sure have your cell phone(Mobile phone) powered-off in the bad weather. Using cell phone while thundering could be fatal!!!
    • Keep distance while walking up the steep broken wall to avoid the possible rolling down stone. Never follow each other one by one in a line closely, climb or walk down this part side by side with distant.
    • Keep distance from any edge of the wall and the open on the wall, because part of the wall is loose and broken.
    • While pass the bridge, don't run, jump, shake and push.
    • Don't lean against the wall to rest, the stone on the wall is loosed.
    • It is really hot to walk on the wall under the Sun. Drink enough water to keep yourselves from dehydration and siriasis.
    • Please take care of everything on and around the wall. Leave nothing except your footprints, take nothing except photograph and garbage.
    • Though our leader have talkers with them on the way, but limited coverage in the area. Some parts of the wall are really rough, so behave as a team, help each other on the road. This trip is to "smell the fresh air", rather than a competition.
    • Many parts of the wall are broken and loose, so sensible footwear is essential.
