Tibet has its own New Year Celebration according to the Tibetan Calendar, they call it Losar. What special things happen during the festival? Are you keen on the Tibetan culture? Join this 9-day Celebrating New Year Tour in Tibet. You will have a deep understanding of Tibet culture and local Tibetans, also their lifestyle so far.
DAY-BY-DAY DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1 Beijing/Lhasa
Arrival Lhasa, meet and greeted by your Tibetan guide and driver. Transfer to the hotel and have a good rest for acclimatization. Stay in 3-star hotel in the center of the old town.
Day 2 Lhasa (altitude 3,700m, BL)
We will visit the Potala Palace , landmark of Lhasa and spiritual symbol of Tibet. In the afternoon, we visit the Jokhang Temple, the spiritual center of old Lhasa. Around the Temple is the Barkhor, a holy circuit which pilgrims undertake and also a bustling local commercial market. The rest of the time is left free for you to venture around Bakhor market. The crowed streets are full of happy atmosphere when many local people do New Year's shopping.Stay in the same.
Day 3 Lhasa (BL)
Breakfast at hotel. Have a short walk before the visiting. You may find that people clean the courtyard, decorate their house and householders are busy with preparing auspicious and traditionally necessaries. Start your sightseeing from Norbulinka (the summer palace of dalai lamas). "Norbu Linka" means beautiful gardens (jewellery garden). Then visit Sera Monastery sits at the foot of the mountains. One of the three main Gelupka monasteries in Lhasa, Sera is an important spiritual center for Buddhist monks. This day is the last day of the year, so for welcoming the new and successful next year they throw a collective objects in a box to four directions from each family, which think that will bring all the bad fortunes of the year, then after the dinner they fire crackers every where and it makes the whole city beautiful with different lights. Day 4 Lhasa -New Year (BL)
Waking up on New Year, everybody dresses up. First they extend greetings to their parents . Then they go out to give their blessing to everyone they meet. They also go to the neighbor's house to share their wish and prayers, drink barley beer too. During the spring festival, all the people prefer to go worship in the monasteries all around the lhasa viz Jokhang, Sera, Dripung , potala palace and so on. Drive to visita family and enjoy how they celebrate the fest. It is more lively and more tradition. You will be involved in a happy and festive air and deeply moved by the kind people. Day 5 Lhasa/Gyantse/Shigatse (BL, altitude 3900m)
Today we will enjoy the fest in the western Tibet, so we leave to shigatse via Gyangtse by the southern Sino-nepal friendship high way. Visit Yamdrok Tso Lake (4408 m),one of Tibet's three holy lakes and located 110km outside of Lhasa. O n the way you can see the different way of celebration in between city life & village life, but villagers are more closed with real tradition of early Tibet life. They have slightly uncommon way of celebration, but their living and house are pure Tibetan architecture. At arrival at Gyantse visit the Pelkor Chode monastery and its associated Kumbum (three dimension mandala) temple. Onwards to Shigatse. Stay in Shigatse Hotel or similar
Day6 Shigatse/Lhasa (BL)
Shigatse is the 2 nd largest city in Tibet and it is belongs to the western Tibet, so they have their distinguished and rich tradition, custom and life. Visit a local family in the city, and you could find some difference in the way of custom and lifestyle . Afternoon, visit the Tashilhumo Monastery and the local market. Drive back to Lhasa. Stay in 3-star hotel.
Day 7 Lhasa/home (B)
Transfer to railway station or airport out of Lhasa.
B - Breakfast, L -Lunch, D - dinner.

The tour cost includes:
- Land transfer service, meals daily as listed in the itinerary(B-breakfast， L-lunch, D-dinner), service of English-speaking guide, experienced driver, scenic spots admission fee, twin share room in 4-star hotel in big city, the best hotel in small cities or counties, clean carefully-chosen guest house/hostel/or home-stay in village or old town; all domestic flights or trains and local airport taxes if there is in the itinerary.
The tour cost Does not include:
- meals in your free time and on the train/plane, personal travel insurance (very important); transfer/guide/entrance tickets in your free time, extra luggage truck, international flights and related airport taxes, any tips (hotels, restaurants, guide, driver, etc.), photography charges at monasteries/palaces/sites if required, supplementary trips and services not mentioned, supplement cost for those who wants to accommodate on a single basis, any expenses on personal nature not listed above, the extra cost due to the unforeseen events;
Remarks:
- As the exchange rate of CNY to USD is subject to Change, the final price will be calculated according to the Chinese currency CNY. The price in USD dollar is just for your reference.
- We are ready to reserve the e-air ticket from another city to the starting city or from the ending city back to your preferred city if needed.
- Before you pay deposit to book the tour, we haven’t made any reservation yet. The train, flight tickets and the hotel may different from the itinerary listed.
- The visiting order of the scenic spots in the itinerary may change according to the traffic condition and other unforeseen things.
- Tourist insurance is a must before going, please provide us the confirmation of insurance company when sign up.
