Great wall camping tour from Gubeikou to Simatai is designed for the trekking
and camping lover. The part of the wall we would trek along is the most
magic part of Great Wall in Beijing(pictures),
where few tourists but nature lover prefer to visit. If you are dreaming
of enjoy the breathtaking sun-rising and sun-setting on the top of the
Great Wall, join us now! Gubeikou part of the wall is partly located in
the military area and are less known as Simatai. The 22km's distance on
the wall will take us about 10-11 hours hiking up and down on the range
of the mountain in the two days. It is not easy. Every participant must
make sure your own health condition is fit enough for the activities!
Day-by-day Hiking Itinerary
| Day 1
|
Gubeikou-Jinshanling
Pick up at your hotel, transfer to the Gubeikou section of the Great
Wall, where our two-day hiking on the Wall start. Today we will hike
for about 10km and it takes us about 5 hours on the way, if the weather
is good you could see Miyun reservior and the Wangjing Tower in Simatai
Section on the way. There is a military area where hiking on the wall
is prohibited, you could have a nice walk into a nearby village and
come back onto the Wall in Jinshanling section after the military
area. Camping on one of the Watch Tower in Jinshanling Section of
the Wall or staying in local family's home. |
| Day 2
|
Jinshanling-Simatai
If you wake up early enough, you could enjoy a beautiful sun-rising
on the Wall. After breakfast, continue hike east from Jinshanling
to Simatai Section of the Wall.Today's hike is a little difficult
as the Wall running up and down the rang of the mountain. Some part
of the wall is really steep and broken, be very careful. Picnic lunch
in one of the beacon tower, while outside under the sun is really
hot, inside the tower is always cool. A crystal lake at the bottom
of the valley will welcome your at the end of the hike in Simatai.
Your bus is waiting for you at the parking lot. transfer back to where
you start in the City, the end of the two-day hiking tour. |

Great Wall Hiking FAQs:
- Please prepare first aid kit and medicine for diarrhoea,siriasis,carsickness,and
other facilities and medicine necessary. It is very important to have
breakfast one hour before the long trekking. Please refer to the professional
doctor for the preparation and note.
- Keep distance from the edge of the wall, any open on the wall, and
the warning sign at the camping site. Trekking with the team and play
in the safe distance of camping site.
- In summer, thunder shower or storm is common while hiking on the
Wall. Be sure have your cell phone(Mobile phone) powered-off in the
bad weather. Using cell phone while thundering could be fatal!!!
- What to bring:
two picnic lunch, one dinner, one breakfast, at least 4 liter of water
for drink on the way and cooking, some snacks, sunscreen, sun-glasses,
pocket knife, cooking and eating utensils and tools, pocket knife,
first aid kit, toilet paper, lip balm and cap etc.
- How to pack:
a.) You are suggested to pack the following in a small bag: at least
1.5 liter water, two picnic lunch and some snacks, sunscreen, sun-glasses,
and cap etc.
b.) The food for Day1's dinner and Day2's breakfast , water for cooking
and other necessities are suggested to be packed in another bag easy
to carry. They will be carried up directly to the camping site by
our service persons together with the camping equipment.
- Participants will cook their own meal and set up the camp site.
All the camping equipment will be transferred to camping site directly
so the participants needn't carry it on the way. But Our service persons
will only carry up the food for dinner and breakfast, the camping
equipments and water for cooking (at most 2 liter /pax). So don't
pack too much. Participants are supposed to take the rest food down
the Wall themselves.
- Though our leader have talkers with them on the way, but limited
coverage in the area. Some parts of the wall are really rough, so
behave as a team, help each other on the road. This trip is to "smell
the fresh air", rather than a competition. Never stay away from
the team..
- What to wear:
a. ) Spring is always windy and cool. Summer is always hot at noon
and cool at night. While T-shirt and pants easily to dry are suitable
for daytime trekking, trousers and jacket are necessary for the cool
night and early morning. Autumn is the best season for hiking on the
wall, sunny and cool during the day and breathtaking sun rising and
setting view could be seen most probably. Winter is very cold and
windy with snow and sunshine.
b. ) Many parts of the wall are broken and loose, so sensible footwear
is essential.
- There are local people selling bottled water and even Coco cola
from Simatai to Jinshanling on Day1. They generally charge five yuan
for each.
- Incase of unforeseen government prohibition of camping and campfire,
we reserve the right to alternate the itinerary with the agreement
of the participants. The participants are expected to take the extra
payment if there is any.
- It's really a long drive for about seven hours to and back. We may
be delayed by the traffic or something unforeseen, so you could bring
your cd player or tape recorder to enjoy on the way. But don't bring
it with you while trekking. Leave it on the bus when head off to trek..
- Please take care of everything on and around the wall. Leave nothing
except your footprints, take nothing except photograph and garbage.
- Make a good use of the camping equipment. Damage will cause compensation.
- Individual participant stay away from the teams is forbidden
